Support the PNA Campaign
Many individuals living with mental illness receive their mental health care within nursing facilities. Specialized Mental Health Rehabilitation Facilities (SMHRFs) are facilities where mental illness is the primary diagnosis of more than 50% of the SMHRF population. SMHRFs are for-profit facilities in Illinois. Our campaign addresses the basic dignity of those in recovery still living in SMHRFs.

We want to increase the monthly Personal Needs Allowance (PNA) given to residents of SMHRFs by passing SB1353. Since 1987, residents only received $30/month for their PNA. Illinois is one of only a few states who have not increased the PNA since 1987.

Dear IL State Legislature,
This letter is in support of Senate Bill 1353 which would see an increase in the Personal Needs Allowance (PNA) from $30 a month to $60 a month for people living with mental illness in Illinois’ Specialized Mental Health Rehabilitation Facilities (SMHRFs).This is important to me because:
Add why this bill is important to you (optional):
The PNA in Illinois has not been increased since 1987. In the meantime, 45 other states have increased their PNA. It’s impossible for anyone to live on $1 a day, is demeaning, and harms some of Illinois’ most vulnerable citizens. It’s time to raise the PNA, which comes from the residents own checks, and return to them what is rightly theirs. Help ensure this legislation passes by co-sponsoring and voting yes on SB1353.
Sincerely,
